How to Build a Strong Brand: 5 Key Steps to Get Started

October 19, 2021|Advertising, Brand, Growth, Innovation, Marketing

Branding is a critical item in a company's success, it is what encourages consumers to use your services and/or products. Using branding, you are building customer loyalty and therefore increasing your company's value. Here are NM’s 5 Key Steps to Get Started.

Section 1: Develop Your Brand Strategy

Your brand is what you are known by. Think about the core values of your brand and the strategy that is going to be put forth by you. What will you be known for? Whether it be the wide range of services or your well-thought-out strategy, be prepared. You want to give people a reason to buy your products or use your services.

Take your time and define your brand’s key concepts

In the early stages of your brand, it is best to have an outline to highlight each core area and major principle you want to focus on. You want to focus on developing your core values before you really dive into your product and service offerings. It is key to be able to easily point to each point on the plan and indicate why it's important.

Also, it is important to note that things change as the company grows thus don’t feel obliged to stick to what you or your partner(s) agreed when you first started your brand. Understand that it is okay, even healthy, to be able to pivot if need be – that might even save your business! Make sure you understand that this process should not be rigid but should be agile. However, agility can sometimes spiral out-of-control so try to keep it in check!

Always target to conduct calculated risk

Section 2: Develop A Strong Identity

First, you need to know who you are. With branding you have to understand how your company's name/logo represents your brand. The name/logo should be simple and focus on the company's values and core competencies. This will also help you determine your brand promise and consumer purpose. Keep in mind that logos/names and designs change with time (trends). We believe that a brand should be free from constraints of current trends (as they change) but it is not bad to benchmark what you are doing with the market.

Make It Easy To Remember

In order to build a brand that you and your customers are going to appreciate, you need to have a memorable brand name. There are other things that you need to take into consideration as you develop a memorable brand name. While it's true that your customers can remember your brand name, the ability to recognize your brand in a crowded marketplace, with your competitors, is difficult to obtain.

Be unique and remember-able

Section 3: Create Awareness

A good branding process will establish a strong sense of awareness for your brand in the marketplace. Some brands need to establish their brand, while others require an advertising campaign. To launch your brand, a unique opportunity arises. Netflix had an advertising campaign for its streaming services, but it has taken years to reach the level of recognition it has achieved. Companies like Google and Apple launch their marketing campaigns when the customer is ready for it. Identify the message and use that to drive awareness in your industry.

Create a Proven Brand Identity as many companies rush into launching a brand because they need it to establish their position.

Section 4: Build Your Brand Personality

Creating your brand personality is the first thing that you need to develop when you have a company. There are five personality traits that will make up the personality of your brand (for more details please view the interesting article issued by Natives Group, https://nativesgroup.com/marketing/explaining-the-five-dimensions-of-brand-personality/

Be sincere and honest

Humor can be beneficial when used in the right context but make sure you are funny. Branding is about being truthful and authentic. The same should be with showing respect to clients and employees. The goal is to create a culture where people can be themselves.

Be energetic and adventurous

Branding is about creating excitement. Also, it is about being positive and open. As you work toward creating a consistent company culture, you can include things like open forum meetings where you can address employee and client issues.

Section 5: Connect with Your Audience

Before you can think of a brand, you must first be connected with your audience. By taking surveys, having your engaging content on your and speaking to your customer through social media you will be able to accurately connect with your customer.

Reputation is key

Without a strong reputation you will not be able to grow your business. By obtaining reviews, ratings and word of mouth you gain trust with your customers. You can also communicate your brand and increase your brand presence through media channels which would lead to an enhancement in your reputation.
